About Us
Spudcrazy, Sabot Ranger, Goofa and Leg-Man first started playing together in the summer of 2005. All of us became instantly addicted to team play and discovered we worked pretty well together. We then became regulars at our field of choice, Hogback Mountain Paintball and played each first Sunday of the month, playing hopperball.
Hopperball is a great way to learn tactics, restraint and paintball usage efficiency. The idea behind hopperball isn't one that many of our youthful paintballers gravitate towards. The basic rule of hopperball is that for each game played, whether it be a 15 minute capture and defend, full elimination or capture the flag, you are only allowed enough paintball's that will fit in your hopper. NO PODs allowed on the field!!! Because of this, spraying and praying is not the best tactic of choice. Hopperball is, also, great for us budget-minded players, in that you are forced to limit the amount of paint used.
Well, we found that we had become pretty good at this kind of playing, which inevitably helped us at "regular" rule paintball. Kids would no longer look at us as easy targets, but as capable and sought after team-mates...
After a few months of playing, we decided to formally form a team. A posting was put on a couple of forums asking for a team name, and we finally settled on Old Man Militia. With the help of SyriusBlack, from the IonOwners forum, we got our logo. Spudcrazy made some modifications, and thus, the Old Man Militia was born. Since Goofa is the son of the Leg-Man, we figured we'd subgroup the Young Guns.
Thanks to Zeylor of DeadByDawn, we were turned on to scenario play. In March of 2006, we registered in our first big game, the MXS Narnia, 26-hour Scenario Event, in Hopewell, VA @ Splatbrothers Paintball Park. What a royal blast we had.... We knew then that this was something we wanted to continue to do. So, the story continues.....
